Budget survey - Please complete by Monday, April 8

4/7/2019

Your input is needed! I am working to finalize a budget proposal to be presented to the Local School Council on Thursday, April 11th, in particular, around Recess, Specials and Administrative Support.

With the exception of the Pre-K expansion, our budget is fairly flat from prior years with minimal options for increasing programming. We are already planning to add in an additional classroom for the current 5th grade group/next years 6th grade group - this means that there will be (4) classrooms at each grade level with an average class size ranging from 25-29 students.

Please complete this survey by Monday, April 8th.

Thank you!
Lori Zaimi
Principal
---

¡Gracias!

budget update & pre-k Expansion news

4/2/2019

PS Principals received school budgets yesterday, this is the earliest in my time as principal that budgets were released. I will be working over the upcoming weeks on a proposal to share with the Local School Council for approval. Below are a few highlights:
  • Overall, we received $37,000 in additional funds. With an anticipated staff salary increase of 2.5%, we will come out with less discretionary dollars this coming year.
  • Peirce's poverty rate continues to decline - last year 65.57% of families qualified for free/reduced lunches and this year we are at 54.99%. The decrease in percent of families who qualify for free/reduced meals resulted in a loss of $100,000 in federal dollars.
  • Peirce is projected to lose 1 Sp.Ed. teaching position, if our schedules show that there is a need for that position, I will request an adjustment in position allocations. Once Human Resources completes the staffing organization analysis, staff members will be informed of their status at Peirce for next school year.

Overall, I anticipate no major changes to K-8th school programming for the 2019-2020 school year.

Peirce's Pre-K Program is Expanding!
Very exciting times for our Pre-Kindergarten program! As a result of parent and community advocacy, collaboration with Alderman Osterman and the Office of Early Childhood Education, Peirce will receive 4 additional Full Day Pre-Kindergarten classrooms for the 2019-2020 school year! One of the classrooms will be a Full Day Blended PK program which will support students who have an IEP along with those without. Because we are at capacity on-site, an off-site facility will be renovated to make room for our PK expansion. This expansion comes as a result of the city's goal to have PK available to all 4 year old students.

More information to come as plans are finalized. Enrollment information will be released mid April.
