Dear CPS Family:
For too long, Chicago students have lost out under Illinois’ unfair funding formula.
Senator Heather Steans fought to change that, fought for our schools and fought for your child to have the resources they need to receive a better education.
Senator Heather Steans’s education funding reform package provides $450 million in new funding for Chicago Public Schools. This funding is a major step toward ensuring students in Chicago schools have the same opportunities as children in wealthy districts.
This plan provides certainty for our schools and families. Because our schools are starting a new year on stronger financial footing, you will not have to worry about the school year ending early or school days being canceled because of a shortage of money.
While some in Springfield tried to pit children and communities against each other for political gain, Senator Heather Steans rejected efforts to pick winners and losers. Every school will receive fair funding in this plan, and districts like Chicago that educate large numbers of disadvantaged students and English learners will receive the funding we need to help all students reach their full potential.
We’re grateful for Senator Heather Steans’s work on behalf of our schools and students. Alongside the efforts of dedicated teachers, and the parents, grandparents and caregivers who push young people to work hard, Senator Heather Steans’s plan will help ensure that all students receive a world-class education.
We hope that you can thank your representatives who supported this measure for never losing sight of what these reforms mean for Chicago’s students.
