PEIRCE DAY at HOPLEAF BAR
Sunday, April 30, 2017 the Hopleaf Bar will once again host "Peirce Day" from Noon-2am. 100% of gross receipts from this event will be donated to Peirce School.
Last year, Hopleaf Bar, the Andersonville establishment owned by Michael Roper and Louise Molnar, raised over $30,000 from this event to support arts enrichment programming at Peirce School, including dance, art, and after school programming. Due to the forecasted budget shortfalls, fundraising will unfortunately be needed to bridge the growing gap for programs previously funded by CPS and Hopleaf's support has been critically important.
Just like last year, we are expecting to pack Hopleaf from open to close and invite anyone over 21 to join us to support our school. Hopleaf's address is 5148 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60640.
We are so thankful for Michael and Louise and the team at Hopleaf. Over the course of the last five years the Hopleaf Bar has helped raise over $200,000 for Peirce arts and after school programs. Hopleaf's gesture is incredible and a testament to how philanthropy can be good business.
Celebrating its 25th year in business, Hopleaf also continues the Kegs for Kids Tap started in October 2015 as a daily dedicated fundraising platform for Peirce. The Kegs for Kids Tap has been a wonderful success up to this point and Hopleaf plans to continue the program throughout the year. All net beer sales from the dedicated beer on the Hopleaf menu go to support Peirce programs. Breweries, parents, teachers, and community members have taken turns sponsoring the Kegs for Kids Tap throughout the year. Get in touch with FOP if you'd like to sponsor a keg for the Kegs for Kids Tap.
FRIENDS OF PEIRCE BOARD ELECTIONS - Seeking Volunteers
Attention Peirce parents! Are you concerned about school funding? Ready to help? Friends of Peirce is looking for you!
FOP works with the school administration, community businesses, and parent and teacher volunteers to raise money for Peirce Elementary. Donations help to fund everything from furniture to extra curricular arts to science materials to field trips.
Board positions are now up for election. If you are interested in running for a seat on the board, please send a statement of interest to Joe Dunne, FOP Vice President, at Joe@friendsofpeirce.org by May 1st. Board elections will take place at the May board meeting, tentatively scheduled for May 16, 2017 at 6:30 pm. Interested candidates should plan to attend the board meeting to present their statement of interest.
There are some shabby desks in some of our class rooms, and contributions to FOP will help fix that. A new desk costs $75. At many of our upcoming FOP events there will be a place where you can make a donation earmarked towards the purchase of new desks. Thanks!
The Peirce School 18th Annual Move-a-thon will take place Friday, May 5, 2017. As a parent, you can help raise more funds for our school!
Our Ad Sponsor and Family 'Shout-Out' book will be given to the entire student body plus staff. This booklet may have valuable coupons as well as encouraging words for your child/children, classmates, teachers, or the entire school that YOU want to share.
All money raised from the Ad Sponsor Booklet and the Move-a-thon will go directly to support our growing athletics program, educational student field trips and stipends for otherwise teacher-funded classroom supplies. Remember, the deadline to submit your Ad/Shout-out is on or before Friday, April, 21, 2017.
If you have questions, please contact Manini Rao at (312) 218-4342, or by email at Manini@friendsofpeirce.org.
SAVE THE DATE FOR MIDSOMMARFEST
Be on the lookout for the sign-up to volunteer to staff the Midsommarfest beer tents on June 10th. It's always a fun and lively event, and each volunteer results in a contribution to FOP.
If you haven't had a chance to complete the FOP Parent Survey, we'd love to hear from you so that we can get to know who you are and find out how we can work together to build a better community for the students of Peirce. This is the link to complete the survey.
Mom's Night at Bar Roma raised $1305 through ticket sales and cash donations. This will allow us to purchase 17 new desks. Bar Roma offered delicious appetizers and Peirce parent Christophe Bakunas of Cream Wine Company donated upscale wine for the event.
Giordano's Night in March raised $145.32. Our partnership with Giordano's will allow us to have a monthly Peirce night every month, including the summer months. Also, Giordano's will be launching a reading program this month for all Peirce students. Every student will get a reading log to track their books read. They can turn the log in for a free pizza. This will also be an ongoing program for Peirce, and will be managed by the PSO.
The Pork Shoppe's Parent Mixer was a great opportunity for Peirce parents to learn more about the various parent volunteer organizations at Peirce while they caught up with friends and enjoyed great food and drinks.
Please support these neighborhood businesses that support Peirce. Let them know you're a Peirce parent and that you appreciate their support. Peirce counts on these events and others like them to provide resources to ALL our students.
