Dear Peirce Families,
I am humbled and honored to introduce myself as the new Principal of Peirce School of International Studies. It is a true privilege to have been chosen to lead such a dynamic and successful school community, and I am excited to join a school with such a rich tradition of excellence. Outside of work, I’m a proud father of two boys and am incredibly fortunate to be supported by my amazing wife, who is also a CPS teacher. Her unwavering encouragement has been instrumental in my journey—I would not be where I am today without her. Education truly runs in our family: my mother and sister-in-law are both 3rd grade dual language teachers in other CPS schools. We are proud to be a family of educators! I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University in 2007, followed by a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an ESL endorsement from Concordia University in 2011. I completed my administrative certification at North Park University in 2013. I began my career at Haugan Elementary School, where I served from 2007 to 2021 as both a teacher and administrator. From 2007 to 2014, I taught 2nd and 3rd grade bilingual students in a Transitional Bilingual Education program and supported students with IEPs within the bilingual setting. During this time, I also earned National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood/Literacy: Reading–Language Arts (2013). Since 2021, I have proudly served as the Assistant Principal at Inter-American Magnet School. Throughout my career, I have remained passionate about bilingual education, inclusive practices, and fostering strong family-school partnerships that reflect the diversity and strength of our communities. My vision for the Peirce community is to prepare our students to be productive, globally-minded citizens. Through the rigorous implementation of our Primary and Middle Years Programmes, combined with differentiated instruction, I want our school community to continue that commitment to meeting the unique needs of every learner. By working together we will prepare students not only to succeed academically, but also to contribute meaningfully to an increasingly interconnected world. Together, we will nurture a vibrant community where students are empowered with the knowledge, skills, and character to make a positive impact. I look forward to beginning this journey with all of you. My tentative start date is Tuesday, November 4th. A town hall parent meeting will take place at a later date to introduce myself to the community and to offer opportunities to begin building relationships, gather feedback, and collect insights on the school's culture, strengths, and challenges. Es un verdadero privilegio haber sido elegido para liderar una comunidad escolar tandinámica y exitosa, y estoy entusiasmado de unirme a una escuela con una rica tradición de excelencia. Fuera del trabajo, soy un orgulloso padre de dos niños y tengo la gran fortuna de contar con el apoyo de mi increíble esposa, quien también es maestra en las Escuelas Públicas de Chicago (CPS). Su apoyo incondicional ha sido fundamental en mi trayectoria: no estaría donde estoy hoy sin ella. La educación realmente corre por nuestras venas: mi madre y mi cuñada también son maestras de tercer grado en programas de educación dual en otras escuelas de CPS. ¡Estamos orgullosos de ser una familia de educadores! Obtuve mi licenciatura en Educación Primaria en Northeastern Illinois University en 2007, seguida de una maestría en Currículo e Instrucción con un endoso en ESL (inglés como segundo idioma) en Concordia University en 2011. Completé mi certificación administrativa en North Park University en 2013. Comencé mi carrera en la Escuela Primaria Haugan, donde trabajé de 2007 a 2021 como maestro y administrador. De 2007 a 2014, enseñé a estudiantes bilingües de 2.º y 3.º grado en un programa de Educación Bilingüe Transicional y brindé apoyo a estudiantes con IEPs dentro del entorno bilingüe. Durante este tiempo, también obtuve la Certificación Nacional (National Board Certification) en Alfabetización para la Primera y Media Infancia: Artes del Lenguaje y Lectura (2013). Desde 2021, he tenido el honor de servir como Subdirector en la Escuela Magnet Interamericana. A lo largo de mi carrera, he mantenido una gran pasión por la educación bilingüe, las prácticas inclusivas y la creación de alianzas sólidas entre la escuela y las familias que reflejen la diversidad y fortaleza de nuestras comunidades. Mi visión para la comunidad de Peirce es preparar a nuestros estudiantes para que sean ciudadanos productivos y con una perspectiva global. A través de la implementación rigurosa de nuestros programas de los Años Primarios y Años Intermedios (PYP y MYP), combinada con una enseñanza diferenciada, deseo que nuestra comunidad escolar continúe con el compromiso de atender las necesidades únicas de cada estudiante. Trabajando juntos, prepararemos a nuestros estudiantes no solo para tener éxito académico, sino también para contribuir de manera significativa a un mundo cada vez más interconectado. Juntos, cultivaremos una comunidad vibrante en la que los estudiantes estén empoderados con el conocimiento, las habilidades y el carácter necesarios para generar un impacto positivo. Espero con entusiasmo comenzar este camino con todos ustedes. Mi fecha tentativa de inicio es el martes 4 de noviembre. Pronto se llevará a cabo una reunión comunitaria para presentarme formalmente, ofrecer oportunidades para empezar a construir relaciones, recopilar opiniones y conocer más sobre la cultura escolar, sus fortalezas y desafíos.
