Absence Policy
CPS Policy states that students can only be excused from school for the following reasons:
  • Student illness
    • This includes mental or behavioral health (As of January 1, 2022, absences can be attributed to mental or behavioral health for up to five days based on Public Act 102-0321.
  • Observance of a religious holiday
  • Death in the immediate family
  • Family emergency
  • Circumstances which cause reasonable concern to you for your child’s safety or health
Family vacations and family trips will NOT be excused. All student absences, regardless if they are excused are included in the school attendance percentage.

Absence Note Protocol
On the day that the student returns to school, they are required to bring a completed Absence Note Form signed by his/her parent/guardians, or email the school at Peirceabsencenote@gmail.com to notify the school about the absence. Parents do not need to call the attendance office unless a student is going to be out for several days.
  • The note can be turned in to the main office or your child’s teacher.
  • The note must be signed by the student’s legal guardian.

Early Dismissal Protocol
If a student is receiving an early dismissal, the student must be signed out by a legal guardian in the main office. Students are not allowed to leave campus without a guardian. If someone other than the guardian is picking up the student, prior arrangements should be made with the main office or your child’s teacher. Students will only be excused for early dismissals if they are signed out in the main office.
  • Early Dismissals with a full day of attendance for students is 2:00 p.m.
  • Late Arrival at 10:30 a.m. will be counted as a half day absence
  • Dismissals at 12:30 p.m. will be half day absence
If you have any additional questions, please contact Sally or Lynn in the main office at (773) 534-2440.
