PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The goal of our physical education program is to engage students in moderate to vigorous physical activity, promote lifelong fitness, and develop personal and social responsibility. Our hope is that students who leave our program with these skills will contribute in a positive way to their community
Kindergarten - 2nd grade
In Kindergarten to second grade, the primary focus is to enhance locomotor and non-locomotor skills through developmentally appropriate games and activities. Students gain an understanding of various movements through instruction, demonstration, and application. These units include Locomotor Movements, Fitness, Rhythmic Movements, Low Organized Activities, Track & Field, and Soccer.
3rd - 5th Grades
The third to fifth grade curriculum sequences these fundamental movements into sport-related skills. Students will focus on the fundamentals of various sports. Students learn the rules and skills of each sport and participate in game play. These units include Flag Football, Floor Hockey, Dance, Basketball, Track & Field, Soccer, and Softball.
6th - 8th Grades
The sixth to eighth grade curriculum emphasizes collaboration, communication, and teamwork. Students focus on personal development and individual progress throughout a variety of physical activities. In addition, students will learn to apply health-related knowledge in various aspects of their own lives. Physical activity units include Flag Football, Floor Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, Track & Field, Soccer, and Softball. Lastly, students participate in fitness testing in the beginning and end of the year to show each student’s progression.

It is my mission to expose my students to a wide variety of activities, to discover, and enhance these skills. As a Physical Education teacher, my students will learn the importance of being fit and healthy to encourage students to live and maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives." Mr. Crawley received his Major in Physical Education and second Major in Health Sciences at Northeastern Illinois University. There he studied various activities that benefit student’s physical health and mental well-being, as well encouraging team building and positive views with physical activity. Mr. Crawley enjoys finding new activities to spend his time and hopes he can pass down his passion of physical activity to future generations. When it comes to physical education, Mr. Crawley states that, “My goal is creating meaningful and positive physical education experiences that are accessible to all students; that every student has the encouragement to better their physical health, and relationships with others. Developing these traits in their youth, will help them build an ongoing positive relationship with physical fitness.” |
