Greetings Peirce Families,
As an IB School, we work to create an inclusive, supportive environment for all students and families. A school that is well-balanced, focusing on the development of the whole child through rigorous instruction, social emotional learning and enrichment opportunities within the school day and beyond. We are also proud of our work with Restorative Practices - the language we use when communicating, the development of community via talking circles and the use of restorative conversations and peace circles when navigating conflict. I am proud to serve Peirce School and excited about the work happening within our Race & Equity Parent Resource Group - a group that was formed this school year as a sub-group within the Parent Advisory Council. In collaboration with the Race & Equity Parent Resource Group, I have volunteered to participate in a Racial Equity Impact Assessment - after completing the REIA, the Race & Culture Parent Resource Group will continue to collaborate with the school in following through on recommendations, implementing improvements, and evaluating progress in order to create optimal experiences and opportunities for students of color. In the sections that follow you will find more information on the parent focus groups and a FAQ on the work that is happening - I hope that you will consider either attending a focus group, encouraging a Peirce parent to attend, or volunteer to support the focus groups. Just as our work has evolved over the last four years with the use of inclusive practices in the context of Special Education, I look forward to seeing where our work takes us as we take a closer look at Race & Equity at Peirce - with the end goal of creating the best educational opportunities for all students. I hope that you have a wonderful Spring Break (April 15th-19th) and that you enjoy time with friends and family. Happy Spring! Lori Zaimi Principal Read the full newsletter in English or Spanish.
